The Westlake High School Jazz Band is composed of the most advanced student-musicians and is open by audition only. It includes members from all four classes at Westlake High, meeting for one period daily and usually one evening per week during the concert season.

Woodwinds: Each student should have at least three good reeds of appropriate strength at all times. Check with the director if you are unsure as to the reed strength that you should be using. Students should have a clean-out swab appropriate to their instrument to be kept in the case and used after playing the instrument.
Brass: Each student should have valve or rotor oil appropriate for his or her instrument. Trombone players should have the two-part "Slide-O-Mix" and a misting bottle with them to keep their slides moving smoothly.
Percussion: Each student should purchase the Vic Firth EP2 Intermediate Educational Pack. Or students may purchase sticks and bag separately. Required sticks are Vic Firth SD2, Vic Firth M3, Vic Firth M6 and Vic Firth T3. NO TYMPANI MALLETS, BELL MALLETS or SNARE STICKS WILL BE PROVIDED.
